Our drafted images for our Digi-pack

Here are some drafted images in which we have annotated for our digi-pack. We have underlined what images work, whether they fit to the conventions of R&B and whether the photos are suitable for the genre. We have drafted on the images what they could be used for for example we have designed a possible contents in which is printed on one of the images uploaded below. We have labelled what colours/font and layout in which are conventional to the R&B genre. Additionally we have written how the images are conventional to the genre, for example eye contact from the audience is focused upon the artist and the artists name is bigger than the name of the song making them the subject of the album.

Digi-Pack research

Here, we have uploaded our digi-pack research we have written around the pictures in detail the images that have been presented from R&B artists. We found that commonly the images that are presented, show the artists being dominant and also presents their 'image' to the public. We can also see from the pictures presented above that the male artists like to have certain 'props' for example Usher with his sunglasses, this especially within the old R&B; sunglasses were a typical prop. From newer R&B artists such as  'Trey' we can see that the picture seems to show Trey posing nude however the camera angle and the crop of the shot could trick the mind into thinking this, to show the stereotypical features of a desired male.

This suggests that maybe for our own Digi-pack we should present our artist similar to this. This is good for attracting the female audiences because women desire men who are like the artist or have features like the artist this means when an album is released female audiences will flock for his product, meaning more money is made off it. As you can see we have uploaded a rough sketch of what we would like our Digi-pack to look like, this is what we will base our presentation from. Colours of red, black and grey are typically presented within R&B Digi-packs this ensures that for our own Digi-pack we will include these colours. We have also analysed a digipack of a female R&B icon Beyonce although our artists is not female, we did this to deepen our knowledge and understanding of typical  codes and conventions or R&B artists, as you can see 'Beyonce' is presented from a low angle shot making her superior.

This presentation of her is strange as typically women in R&B are sexualised and are seen as less superior to males. As you can see the presentation is challenging conventions of R&B she is presented superior from a low angle shot, she doesn't seem to be looking at the camera, so realistically she is doing what male R&B artists do when promoting their image, usually females have direct eye contact including the audience. However, it is conventional to an extent, as she is wearing minimal clothing, we can specifically see her feminine features meaning she is being sexualised like an object for men to see.

Documentary

This is our documentary of the making of our movie, where we explain and show the making of the music video, we as a group, created.

Music video

Here is our final product, an R&B music video;

Edited Time plan.

Here, is our edited time plan, where i have made note of what we changed on the day when we filmed the moving images for our music video. Also i have added what we reshot on a separate day, which completed the moving images we needed for the length of the song.
I have also underlined what costumes the characters would be wearing and also what settings each moving image will be shot at.

The reason as to why i have edited the time plan is because due to weather circumstances and  natural lighting we had to re-shoot different things at different times. Additionally we needed a whole extra day of filming in order to make sure that we had enough of good quality of filming so when it came to editing we had enough to choose from.
Also, we looked through the orginal filming we had previosuly done and decided if we needed to, to re-shoot anything that we didn't think was of a good standard.
The big change to the time plan was that we had an extra day shooting in which we changed camera shots around, used different framing. For example when we filmed the male character lip syncing we just left the camera roll and he sang the words of the song looking directly at the camera. We would then re-position the camera so a different camera angle is created and again we would just let the camera film untill we thought we had enough clear camera angles that we could present within our music video.
Additionally we decided not to include things as well, such as the two characters. When it actually came down to it the two characters who we had used were to embarrassed to actually kiss on another for filming.

Time plan for Recording music video

This is a shooting schedule. We recorded the moving image for our music video, throughout the day we made sure, that we had plenty of footage different shots, different angles. This will benefit  us when it comes to editing so we have many options and choices, when deciding what to put into the music video. This will mean that our overall moving image will flow properly.

song choice:

The song chosen is called 'so was i' by Stevie R, The song fits perfectly into the R&B genre, this is due to factors of the artist being of a black ethnicity. From our previous research we learnt that R&B was a a term used to describe the style of African American music. Additionally, every artist that we have researched has been of a black ethnicity this suggests that this is a typical code and convention of R&B. Themes with this particular song, are very conventional to R&B, it is based around the theme of love and breakup, this is typically what R&B songs are about. The genre focuses on solo artists rather than groups. This is a typical convention and the artist within this song both sings and raps, so the focus is solely on the artist within the song and also, he will be one of the main characters within the music video. Along with the binary opposite (the female character). From our audience questionnaires we found that R&B was a popular genre. This influenced our decision into what genre we wanted to make a product from. Most of our audience believe that the music they listen to reflects their life in some way. We believe as a group that the theme of love is a very strong aspect in this (as everyone believes they have been in love at some point) and our chosen song presents this strongly.

Edited Storyboard

This is the edited Storyboard, showing the changes we made to the music video. The storyboard acted as a base for our music video and as you can see we have made a lot of changes. We have moved shots around quite a bit and we have tried to make it as clear as possible through our edited storyboard. However there is an extra piece of information in which is just at the bottom of this story board underlining what shots in order we have used for our music video.
When it came to filming the actually moving images, we most certainly looked at our storyboard to know what shots we are looking for. However when it came to editing the music video itself the shots although we have used them do not go necessarily in this order. There is no verisimilitude of the moving images when following the storyboard. The narrative structure was not clear so we edited the storyboard to a structure where the narrative was clear but also the entire relative shots that are vital for the genre is also presented. For example the very first shots show the male character to a  straight cut to the female character. We did not include this in the beginning of our music video, as structurally it did not work. The narrative story was all muddled as we wanted the focus to be on the male character not on both. We then almost
immediately presented both of the characters on a sofa, where they look 'happy in love'. This gives a clearer narrative from the start of the music video from when it was first originally planned through the storyboard
